They giving themselves over to innumerable anxieties ending only with their death, remaining eager always for the gratification of senses and considering them to be all, hold this view.

💬 Commentary English

The result of perverted thinking is also detrimental. Desires have never and nowhere been able to bring peace to anyone; they cannot do so too. Where the desires are of the kind which can be fulfilled with difficulty and that too by resorting to pride, arrogance and self-conceit, there the anxieties also will be such that will not come to end easily. God knows from where and what kind of anxieties are harboured in the mind. It is natural too, when the sole aim of life is just sensual indulgences, and one revels in it only, considering sensual objects to be all, considering the Lord to be nowhere, there is no existence of the world beyond; whatever is there is here and here only-such hollow and meaningless assumptions can never become the basis for carefreeness. The result of the hollow and baseless western thought of eating, drinking and being merry can be clearly seen in the entire world of today in the form of increasing anxieties and tension-filled atmosphere, which is clearly indicated in the form of this cautioning verse of the Gita.
