(Yoga of Renunciation of Action)

The Gita is in itself the world incomparable scripture which clearly reveals the subtleties of action in all its aspects. In respect of action that no one should entertain any doubts of any type, the Gita preacher while putting His views appears to be extremely careful on this issue. For this reason in the last two verses of chapter 4 in a very simple and candid language, He has provided for motivation for destroying doubts. That should assume the form of inquiry is not bad; but if doubts take the form of illogical questions then from any point of view it is not desirable.

In any case in the scripture of the Gita inquiry has never been prohibited. But to be free from doubt has been found to be absolutely important for moving ahead on the spiritual path. It is so as well! A doubt-ridden personality can never move a step ahead on the path of self-elevation. While providing inspiration to remove doubts from its roots Lord Shri Krishna asked Arjun to renounce action by resorting to Yoga saying yoga sannayasta karmanam gyansanchinn sanshayam then in Arjun, there naturally arose a dilemma.

If such a dilemma prevails in the inner-self, it is not good. Otherwise too, if someone like Lord Shri Krishna who is a teacher of the world is in front of us then it is right and appropriate to transform doubt prevailing in the mind into an inquiry. This is what Arjun precisely did. Without losing an opportunity Arjun put forward the doubt of his mind in the form of inquiry before the Blessed Lord. From here began the fifth chapter of the Gita.
