📜 Translation English

The Blessed Lord said: This faith of the human being born of nature is sattvic, rajasi and tamasi-in this way it is of three kinds only; hear it from Me.

💬 Commentary English

In order to understand spirituality in its right perspective it is necessary to grasp every aspect and detail of the three attributes (Satva, Rajas and Tamas). It may be the external nature or the internal one-it is not unaffected by the influence of the three attributes. Here is found the mysterious indication of inner nature and the three attributes.

Faith does not originate from outside, neither on being told by anybody nor by reading the scriptures, etc. Faith is a natural state. It originates from Nature. The Nature is as per the attributes, the influence of the attributes is always to be found on Nature. That is why here even faith has been classified into three categories-Satvic, Rajasi, Tamasi. This very fact is elaborated in this entire chapter, for describing which the Blessed Lord is giving assurance here.
