Here the worship of the yakshas implies the worship performed to attain material ends for oneself! Sometimes when the desires are not fulfilled then one comes under the subjection of the demoniac influences. For one's gain to cause damage to the welfare of others. For causing harm to others and for that purpose engaging in religious undertakings-this is demoniac form of worship.

There are some who cannot think of either their own welfare or those of others! Sitting somewhere in the cremation ground or adopting similar unholy means, at a unholy place, with evil intentions worshipping the ghosts and spirits and worshipping the departed souls-this is the tamasic faith. By worship of the manes is not implied the rites performed with reverence for ancestors, offering of rice balls, offering of oblation and any religious activity service, etc. undertaken for their sake. This in any case is part of the eternal religion. Here the indication is towards the invocation of the wandering souls under the influence of horrible demoniac propensities, activities or worship undertaken for causing harm or destruction to others!
