Previously also those whose attachments, fear and wrath have been totally destroyed and those who remained completely absorbed in Me with devotion, many such devotees purified by the austerity of knowledge taking refuge in Me, have attained to My state of being.

💬 Commentary English

In the foregoing verse the Blessed Lord has said 'mameti'. Has anybody ever attained to Him? Those who have attained Him what was their state? This verse is the answer to all such questions. Along with this is an inspiration...a hope... an encouragement and an assurance! The charioteer of Parth in the role of speaker of the Gita is presenting an appropriate solution:

If the vision is centred on the world and the mind also considers the world as real, permanent, pleasure-giving, then it is certain that one's attachment will be in transitory perishable, beings and material objects. The desire of possession will be towards that for which there is attraction, and if anyone becomes a hurdle in the fulfilment of desire or where there is an attachment that becomes unsuitable; then wrath will arise. Towards those where one's affection lies, the apprehension of any misfortune gives rise to fear. All these tendencies are found together. On knowing the divine truth principle, all attractions of the world will end. One will realize the reality of the world then. When attraction for the world will turn into dedication towards the Lord, then where will there be room for fear and anger? "Uma je Ram charan ratta, vigat kaam, madh, krodh'.

There is no understanding of the reality. Till there is no understanding of the divinity of the Lord in true light or no effort is made in that direction, until then is the difficulty. Till then only the wordly attractions keep the embodied being entangled in the snares of ignorance. Relations converging only on the world and world only being the refuge, that being ultimate...nothing beyond this comes to the mind. But now, naturally under the sweet patronage of divine refuge the bliss of life! There will always be dependence on someone or the other in life. Just awaken your discernment here. Grasp the truth-the patronage should not be of the perishable, never, absolutely never, there one should only engage in proper conduct-'manmaya mamupashritah'-see this emotion of the Lord in the perspective of an affectionate intimacy, feeling of oneness. Become His, under His refuge get immersed in His divine emotions. It is possible While remaining in the world turn your vision towards the Lord; don the spectacles of His emotional feelings.

'Behavo jnanatapasa puta madbhavamagatah'. Get absorbed in the emotions of the Lord, feeling one with Him is the real practical knowledge. On knowing the birth and deeds of the Lord in essence this state comes naturally. All the accumulated impressions are erased. The influence of divine feelings does not allow entry to new impressions. The inner state becomes purified. Pity is the very foundation of experiencing the Lord. The Blessed Lord is always motivating-so many such devotees have attained Me.

There remains a natural doubt in the mind that is it possible? Can God be attained? Has anyone attained Him? Not any ordinary mortal but the Lord Himself is giving assurance-that on being purified by the austerity of knowledge several have attained Me.

On reading this the mind should be filled with enthusiasm. That several have attained Me-means it is also within my reach. Give up disappointment completely. Take full advantage of the inspirations from the Gita. Keep such a verse in front of yourself as a motivating ideal. The aim of life in any case is the attainment of godhood. This verse can become a firm support for awareness, eagerness towards the goal; do not miss the opportunity. Accept it in this form and see further the magnanimity of Gita's Krishna in this regard.
