💬 Commentary English

Read this verse with great care. Understand the inspiring indications pertaining to the elevation of life contained in it. Accept it as a direct divine inspiration for one's own upliftment! The profoundest state of spirituality will become clear in a very simple manner. Both the nature and the effect of spiritual activities will be transformed.

The first and foremost need of life is-to have the desire for self-evolution. If there prevails inside no eagerness for upliftment then all else is incomplete. Life is meant for self-elevation. Elevation is possible only in human birth. Therefore it is essential to have the desire for upliftment in oneself. If the desire for self-elevation is forceful then any other desire for fruits will not crop up. For transitory fruits, the being remains entangled because there is no all-pervasive desire for elevation inside. The activities of sacrifice, austerity and charity undertaken with a desire for liberation soon fructify.

That egoism should not awaken, towards this end in this verse is found an extremely significant inspiration! While engaging in the performance of a task uttering 'Tat' first and accepting that I am not the doer, the Supreme is doing everything and He is all. I am not doing; He is getting everything done; it is happening due to His grace. In the form of 'Tat' keeping this reality in the forefront one should perform activities like sacrifice, austerity and charity! This, in fact, is a very significant inspiration from the Gita. Bring it into practice in life right away only then will the path of spirituality become glorious.
