💬 Commentary English

Two types of action are found in this world-one sanctioned by the scriptures and the other prohibited by them, auspicious and inauspicious. It is good and right that virtuous actions be performed; they should enable one to gain skill and should be sanctioned by the scriptures. The actions which are considered by the scriptures as right and the best for humans-that should be done. But there is another side to it; prohibited or desire motivated actions too are found in the society. They should be abandoned. It is good, but even abandonment should be after giving proper deliberation and with proper use of discernment.

Prohibited, inauspicious and actions of lower nature should be given up but by entertaining anguish inside. On the other hand, virtuous actions are being performed but with attachment associated with them. Both these eventualities are unacceptable to the Gita. The cause of bondage in any case is not the action itself; bondage owes its origin to attachment and aversion. The enemies of the path of elevation are attachment and aversion; if they persist then what kind of renunciation would it be? That is why while speaking on this topic, the preacher of the Gita has used the word 'renouncee'. On giving up attachment and aversion can one establish one's disposition in the state of satva (purity). In such state of satva where is the room for any doubt to linger? This is the right trait of wisdom. The rightful utilization of the intellect lies in this only! Become wise, become intelligent.
