💬 Commentary English

In the previous verse the Lord has already used the word 'iti'. 'Iti' means the end of what one has to say. The Lord felt what was the outcome of saying such a lot? If here the sermon was to terminate and Arjun also was to be left alone, then nobody could have understood the benefit or implication of the Gita's sermon. This is the very reason that after saying 'iti' the Blessed Lord again on His own is stating that He wants to reveal even more secretive words now.

Arjun in any case is the whole-hearted devotee of the Lord. The veils of attachment and dejection have taken hold of him, because of which he is in the state of dilemma or indecisiveness as to what his duty is; even then his inner spirit is in the state of surrender to the Lord; this became evident on several occasions. If the devotee is totally dedicated to the Lord, then even the Lord cannot remain away from the devotee; the arrangement of the means for the welfare of the devotee remains His priority. By all ways and means the Supreme wants to do good to the devotee.

Arjun appeared to be perturbed by the disappointment of the Lord; then the Lord became keen to pour out His affection on him. Observe the word 'isto'si'. The Lord is saying to the devotee that he is His most adored deity. That the Lord is the most adored deity for the devotee–this is clear, proper and a universally accepted fact. But when the Lord calls the devotee, His most adored deity, then amazement is natural. In fact, this is the state of dedicated single-pointed love. The devotee considers the Lord as his own and the Lord has the same feelings for the devotee. The devotee does not leave the Lord and the Lord also does not give up on him. The devotee considers the Supreme to be his most adorable diety then the Lord even says to this extent, 'That I am the server of the devotee; the devotee is the jewel in My crown.' Here the Lord by giving such a hint is trying to dispel the disappointment which is overwhelming Arjun. As if the Lord desires to say–that I will desert you, do not think in this manner! There is no question of deserting you as you are very much dear to Me. For your own benefit previously too so much has been explained to you; sadness is also for your welfare, but you are not still in a position to realise, but are experiencing dejection–that is why now hear once again 'bhuyah' I will speak for your benefit the supreme word which is the most secretive of all the secrets.
