Lord Shri Krishna is Himself delivering the sermon, in the role of the charioteer of Arjun's chariot. He is explaining with the aid of various kinds of arguments, logic, inspirations and warnings. Till now Arjun is not able to understand. The Lord probably felt that because being seated in front of Arjun on the chariot, Arjun is unable to know Him in essence. That is why, the preacher of the Gita is inspiring Arjun to seek refuge in the Supreme Who dwells in the inmost self.
The purposefulness of human life is in making a better world here and hereafter. While in the world i.e. the body lasts, everlasting permanent peace and in the next world i.e. after giving up the body the supreme status! The world is not able to grant either. This ever changing perishable world can provide eternal peace; is an evident contradiction. Understand the reality and give up the habit of living in contradictions. When supreme peace is within reach then determine to make it possible in life.
This world and whatever there is in it, all will be left behind when we depart from this world. The body made up of Five Elements is also left here. The negative aspect is, that though the world is left here, but the effect of the world in the form of impressions, tendencies and deformities gets accumulated inside. When these take a strong hold, they create a basis for rebirth and keep us engrossed in this cycle. Taking refuge in the Supreme means letting the Supreme reside in the inner emotions; performing actions under His inspiration, for His satisfaction and surrendering the fruits of action to Him; this will then make the accumulated impressions lose their power and grip. On surrender to the Supreme the impressions will keep on being washed away and ultimately the inner-self will become pure and clean. In such a state the result will be experiencing supreme peace, i.e. the natural state of the Lord and attaining the supreme eternal status.
