The one imbued with devotion at the time of departure from this world, with the strength of yoga fixing his life force well in the centre of the eyebrows, then remembering Him with an unshaken mind, attains that Supreme resplendent Divine Purusha (entity).

💬 Commentary English

The last question put forward at the beginning of the eighth chapter is now taken up. Starting from the fifth verse till the present one detailed answers through various expressions have been given! With the use of the word 'pranyankale' by Arjun, the clarification has been given by using the same word.

Both the words-strength of yoga and imbued with devotion-have been used. To be devout is good but if the goal of yoga is combined with the strength of yoga then it is excellent! Devotion should not remain restricted to the just the rites of worship and yoga should not be limited to just physical activities or to just obstinate type of yogic activities; for this reason the expression of devotion combined with the dependence strength of yoga is of special significance.

The Krishna of the Gita does not desire that the human being should keep on taking birth after dying and dying after taking birth repeatedly. For this reason He is replying to the question put by Arjun with great elaboration. In the last moments the inclination should not wander hither and thither. The state of mind should be unwavering and fixed; the mind should not in the least be wandering anywhere. The mental inclination should be fixed between the eyebrows which is called the agya chakra in yoga and (where the vermilion is put on the forehead). Here the connection will be established with the Divine consciousness! Further more, what is required is awareness, caution and alertness and nothing else is to be done. The mission will be accomplished if the relationship is established, mental inclinations have become motionless and stable. Now there will not remain any cycle of birth and death; because such an embodied being will now attain the Supreme divine person. The consciousness of which the embodied being is a part will merge with that and then where will the question arise of coming and going from this world?

Derive inspiration! The status is of the greatest divinity. But it is imperative to engage in regular practice. The goal is to be kept as union with the divine (yoga) and not indulgence. That the mind should be in the habit of becoming fixed in the divine emotion; keep prasticing in this direction without being impatient and anxious!! This highest state, life's superior most state, is for you, certainly and surely! Take inspiration for self-upliftment from the hidden indications in such an emotional expression and insistence of the Blessed Lord. This is the ultimate goal of life; this is the supreme peace, supreme goal, supreme status! What is its nature? Keep moving forward with concentration deriving inspiration from the Gita.
