Iss liye Arjun tu sab kaal mein,

Reh yoga se yukyta har haal mein.

📜 Translation English

O Parth! By knowing both these paths in this manner no yogi will ever get deluded. That is why, O Arjun! You should at all times be steadfast in the yoga of equanimity of intellect.

💬 Commentary English

Till the time the human being has a one-sided outlook; he will consider the visible world as all; he is deluded by its appearance and attractions. He has no knowledge that there is something separate and superior to it. Then what will he do and where will he go? He will be attached there, bewildered by the same, entangled there itself and also gripped; this is the dark aspect of life. He has never found the source of cool and sweet water nor did he try to seek information about it; that is why he is limited to the dirty water of the drain.

But soon the discrimination awakens and attention is drawn towards the bright side of life. This is not all and all is not here; this view is formed. The higher states of life can then be visualized. Then the attraction towards the path of bondage starts diminishing; the hypnotism for sensual objects and material indulgences does not easily attract the embodied being then.

The attraction and attachment for the worldly objects is the path of indulgence; it is the dark fortnight and that of bondage and the movement of life towards downfall. The emotions for the Supreme, inclinations towards Him, attachment for Him are the path of yoga, the bright fortnight and the upward movement in life.

Time is moving fast; one cannot rely on life; which moment will become the last moment, it is not definite. That is why the Lord says-sarvesu, kalesu yoga yukto bhavarjun, 'the state of being established in yoga at all times. That the external sensual objects do not delude; towards this, if there is constant awareness, then the mind will in any case become united in yoga. In any case, one should never rely on the mind; when it may cause bewilderment, draw one towards the world; that is why 'sarvesu kalesu'-at all times this alertness should be maintained! This is the actual spiritual dedication, this is the bright fortnight of life, the northern movement of the sun, the delight of life, the upward movement, supreme status and...everything!

This verse has been glorified by the concluding verse of the eighth chapter.
