In the sixth verse of this very chapter the Blessed Lord had stated that neither the sun nor the moon nor fire can illuminate that Supreme. Why is this so?
Everyone likes light. Light is dear to all. The rising sun is revered as it becomes an inspirational light which emerges from the darkness of the night. Light attracts beings. Through the medium of this verse the Blessed Lord is giving a clear indication that He is the fountain head of all lights. In the material world there is none which is so radiant as the sun. In the moon and fire the light is due to the sun. If you take your thoughts further then the illumination (consciousness) which is in the senses is also due to the Lord. The thought which deserves inspiration is that when the radiance of the sun and the moon is so attractive then how much more will be the radiance, splendour and light of the Divine? This kind of thinking will automatically take the mind towards the Lord. The fundamental need on the spiritual path is that the mind through senses should not be inclined towards sensual objects; the centre of attraction should not be sensual objects; it should be the Lord who is the primal cause of all.
