Chapter 15 — Purushottam Yoga

Verse 8
🕉 Original Sanskrit Shloka

śarīram yadavāpnoti yaccāpyutkrāmatīśvaraḥ

gṛhītvaitāni samyāti vāyurgandhānivāśayāt

🕉 English Translation

Jivatma chode iss deh ko jab,

Naye tann mein pravesh karta hai tab.

Toh mann indriyan sath le jaye woh,

Vayu jo le jati hai gandh ko.

📜 Translation English

Just as the wind takes the scent from the place it emanates from, in a similar manner the Lord of the body, the embodied being when he abandons the body, takes away the mind along with the senses from there, to whichever body he takes up.

💬 Commentary English

The wind does not have any odour. It acquires fragrance from the garden of flowers or from some perfume or scented oil, etc. due to being in contact with it. Similarly the embodied being, being a part of the Lord is in itself pure and enlightened. The embodied being while in the body acquires the influence of the mind and senses due to being in contact with them. If this influence is not there then the embodied being in whichever body it is in, on abandoning it would return to its original nature (of which it is part) and would have become one with it, merged in it. But being separated from its original nature due to the imposition of the nature of mind and the senses, while abandoning the body, carries with it that imposition and enters into another body.

It is imperative to be a bit aware. The wind will remain under the effect of the fragrance for some time only. The embodied being in any case has to drop his superimposed nature. Then why the delay? This delay is the cause for coming and going from the world. Now no more. Do not allow the embodied being to turn mindwards but to turn soulwards. Otherwise, the mind will keep itself associated with the senses and then the embodied being...See the following verse-
