But on the increase of tamoguna there is darkness i. e, indiscrimnation and ignorance; there is no understanding, whatever comes to the mind without giving any thought, without forseeing the consequences of taking action, or there is no sense of taking any action, the state of inertia. For rajoguna, the word inclination has been used. Here is indicated inactivity, idleness and laziness! There is no interest in doing anything. If one is sitting then continuing to do so; if one is idling away then remaining in that state. With it is used the word inadvertence! Otherwise, there is no desire to do anything and if anything is done that is making meaningless effort and doing useless work.
Turning away from virtuous deeds and interest, persistence and attachment to evil deeds! Subjugation to such propensities which draw one towards untruth and evil! When this happens then understand that tamoguna is prevalent.
