In the 26th verse it is surprising to learn that on one hand is unswerving devotion and on the others its fruits-the attainment of Brahmn! Similarly in the 20th verse the fruits of going beyond the three attributes have been stated to be immortality. This question should not arise in anyone's mind that the same state is productive of different results. Practising the yoga of devotion and the result is that of the attainment of Brahmn. That is why the Krishna of the Gita is concluding this chapter with this divine expression.
The subject is mainly of the yoga of knowledge. Here the Blessed Lord is clarifying that the attainment of knowledge is not different from the goal of devotion. Though in devotion the beginning is with both the devotee and the Divine, but the fulfilment is in one only. That is sole principle, essence and Brahmn too, and that very Krishna is at the moment the charioteer of Arjun and the preacher of the Gita. In essence and nature there is no distinction. That essence is immutable and imperishable. Its attainment is the freedom from the cycle of birth and death i e. the state of immortality. That is why it is immortal.
Being imperishable it is also the basis of eternal and absolute bliss. The world is ever changing and is also destructible, that is why the happiness derived from the world is transitory and also gets converted to sorrow. Such an utter bliss which in any situation does not turn into sorrow, that it is possible only through indestructible Brahmn. The Lord is the abode of the eternal and permanent religion. This is extremely a clear declaration from the Lord. Arjun in the 18th verse of the eleventh chapter while eulogizing the Lord has called Him the protector of the eternal religion. Eternal religion is the one which has been existent since the origin of creation. In the absence of religion the being does not have any destination, wisdom and existence. Religion is required necessarily in every field of life. Religion is not any narrow set of beliefs, sect or viewpoint, it is a way of life. It is a means of making life meaningful. To give expression to the humanity in the human being and by means of divine virtues to bring it to a divine state; not just this, but to make one realise Brahmnhood and then to make one see the same Brahmn all around, to give harmony, an open and liberal universal forum is what is religion about. This state can only be seen in the eternalHindu religion. The issue is not that of partiality but that of an open liberal thinking which is impartial and beyond contention! The Blessed Lord is saying that I am the substratum of ever present eternal religion.
Give it a thought, whatever the mainstreams of thoughts are there or religion in their own forms are present in the world of today, there is a time for the commencement of it and there is also someone who has propounded it. But it is not so with the eternal Hindu religion. Since when has it been in existence? Since the inception of creation! By whom was it propagated? By the one who created creation! Come and let us abandon the inner narrowness. Realise and experience the reality.
To Conclude:
The Gita is wonderful scripture which has propounded the Truth with logic and reason. Deliberate with an open mind every inspiration contained in it! You will yourself feel and your liberal spirit will definitely understand the glory of the Bhagvad Gita. It is the necessity of life and society and also the need of the nation as well as the entire world! Peace while living in the world and after leaving it immortality-is the demand of life. Feeling of love and harmony is the need of the nation and the entire world today. Accept the Gita with an open mind! Rest assured that the Gita will undoubtedly fulfil the demand of the present day world.
Grasp the secretive indications hidden in the 14th chapter! Accept reality as reality! Three attributes are described in this chapter. Sometimes examine yourself in solitude. The inner picture will be clearly visible. If while being idle most of the time is spent in sleep or indolence then understand that Tamoguna is prevalent. If when one is idle the mind goes towards the activities born of desires or useless efforts or is drawn towards television. Then understand that rajoguna is predominant. If on having free time one feels inclined towards self-study of scriptures, keeping religious company. remembrance of the Lord, recitation of the scriptures, etc. then satoguna is dominant. Go from tamoguna towards rajoguna. If laziness and indolence is excessive then it is better to do something. Convert rajoguna into satoguna. Associate the Lord with your action. Do not get stuck with satoguna but transcend that too gradually! Make devotion unswerving! Single-pointedly imbibe it in your mind. Feel one with the spirit of divinity; this is the divine state of the transcendence of the qualities, this is the essence of this chapter, this is the divinity of the Srimad Bhagvad Gita and this is the glory of human existence which is unavailable even to the gods! Realise this! The grace of Lord Krishna should ever remain with us! Glory to Lord Shri Krishna!
Thus with the recitation of these divine names Om Tat Sat', Divine knowledge (Brahmavidya) and Scripture of Yoga in the Upanishad of the glorious Shrimad Bhagvad Gita, the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Arjun the 14th chapter entitled as the Yoga of Three-Fold Classification of Attributes stands completed.
Hari Om Tat Sat! Hari Om Tat Sat!! Hari Om Tat Sat!!!
