The one who is seated as indifferent, and cannot be perturbed by the qualities, knowing that the qualities are interacting with qualities steadfastly abides in the Supreme who is Truth, Consciousness and Bliss, does not ever swerve from that state.

💬 Commentary English

That the attributes are interacting with the attributes-this principle propounded by the Gita, is one of the practical realities of life. Whichever quality is strong and dominating, the body starts acting accordingly. The tendencies of the senses are subject to the qualities. Even when the qualities have been transcended while the body exists the influence of the qualities will persist. Body will require rest! Required sleep will also have to be taken. The body cannot remain in the state of total inactivity. One will have to indulge in action. Keeping religious company, service and remembrance of the Lord, reading of scriptures, meditation, etc. also will take place. The three attributes somewhere or the other, at sometime or the other will perform their respective activities. But even then there is a difference. The ordinary person acts under the influence and subjugation of the qualities. The state of the transcendence of the qualities is altogether different.

Does one not get affected by the influence of the qualities. The actions of satoguna are taking place. Sacrifice, charity, austerity, company of the religious, remembrance of the Lord, meditation, joy-all these are there but there is no egoistic attachment in intellect for these activities. Similarly, other essential bodily needs, tendencies or sleep, etc.-all these are essential activities of the body. They are taking place according to the attributes, but he keeps himself uninvolved and indifferent towards them. Indifferent meaning seated above them, not getting involved in them. This is not the only goal; the goal is beyond and above them; keep your vision fixed there! Remain in the spirit of the Self. Bodily rest is necessary for the body, there should be no fixation of intellect in its comfort. My rest, my joy is in my true nature, i. e. it lies in abiding in the Supreme-this world and the state beyond the attributes of this world. If today the one enjoys the singing of the Lord's glories and if tomorrow it is obstructed by the old accumulated impressions then the mind will get agitated. Protect yourself from this. The joy arising from the Lord's worship should be made a stepping stone for moving ahead; do not get attached to this state. Right sleep is essential. If intellects seeks its happiness in that only then the effect of tamoguna will grow. The Same is the state of rajoguna. There should be no attachment to action. Actions are taking place; the qualities are interacting with qualities. Developing this kind of attitude remain unconcerned.

The second question relating to Arjun's enquiry pertains to the conduct of the one who has transcended the attributes-
