On facing the kinsmen standing in front of him Arjun's mind became full of compassion. Compassion is a good quality. The Gita has also given priority to compassion in the list of the qualities of the devotee. But this kind of compassion in case of Bharat muni caused compassion to be enveloped by attachment and the result....! The same kind of compassion is found here in Arjun. Here the compassion of Arjun is like that of a (judge) who gives the death sentences to several persons, Once his own son due to misfortune became involved in some grave crime; his death sentence was certain. Then the judge started argumenting that the death sentence is an inhuman and barbaric act, death sentences should not be pronounced...
Arjun is in the same situation. He has fought several terrible wars. But never did he feel compassionate. In reality, this is not compassion but attachment for the kinsmen and the consequence of which is the language being used by Arjun.
The real compassion gives rise to sense of satisfaction. Here instead of giving rise to satisfaction if it is leading to dejection, restlessness, nervousness, trembling, feeling of lifelessness, then it should be understood that these signs are not of compassion but of attachment due to delusion. Be not just limited to this; see further.
