That tumultuous uproar rent the hearts of Dhristrashtra's sons, that is the side of the Kauravas, and made the earth and sky reverberate.

The conch blew from the side of the Kauravas. Kettledrums, drums and horns were also sounded and their sounds were also shrill and terrible (1. 12-13). But this seemed to have no adverse impact on the Pandava side. When the Pandava side blew the conch and instruments were sounded it caused commotion amongst the Kaurava party and gave rise to fear and in the words of Sanjay "as if the heart was being rent apart". Why so? The reason is the same. Wherever there is righteousness, right direction, truth, there the heart is strong, and wherever there is unrighteousness, unlawfulness, injustice, etc. contrary conduct is there and the heart is weak from the beginning, and any similar state directly causes a bad influence.
The armies have been described; conches have been blown. There is complete readiness for warfare, but not yet. A divine event is yet to happen. The background for the sermon of the Gita is to be prepared. In that perspective take place the further events.
