In the Gita, the spirit of completely controlling the mind has always been there and particularly in this section it is being repeated time and again. This repetition is not a flaw but can be taken to be essential and important in this context. If father time and again asks the son to concentrate on his studies, then the son should understand that it is in his own benefit. If the Blessed Lord is time and again insisting on this aspect then O seeker! Understand this well that without subduing the inner-self, it is not possible to engage in the discipline of meditation. Therefore, try to make yourself understand. Leave the habit of uselessly keeping the mind deluded! Let the gones here and there begones; the arrow which has escaped from our hands does not return! Do not uselessly worry about it. Whatever will happen is not in your hands. Live in the present; improve your present. The present time carries the motivation for engaging in the practice of meditation. Therefore, now engage only in meditation of the divinity of the Lord and nothing else. Even to the extent that not even the subtlest trace of the desire should be there; nothing should be longed for, in the inner state there should be no connection with anybody! No longing for getting or acquiring anything:
This is a state of being calm, serene, balanced and concentrated! The verse begins with the word 'yada' (when) and ends with the word 'tada' (then). When one attains thiskind of an inner-state then at that time the state of being united in yoga is achieved! This is not just an oral assertion but a fact which has been tested, experimented upon and found to be true! Try to put into practice this inspiration from the Gita! Even if for testing its veracity awaken keenness in yourself. When the Lord is giving such a significant message then one should also practise the same.
The Lord is giving a special hint to caution the seeker by the use of the words 'yada' and 'tada' that the deficiency is from your end. As soon as you are able to overcome this deficiency, the attainment of the state of being united in yoga is not just waiting for you, but will be experienced as being eager and ready to welcome you.
What and how will be the state of the mind which is under control? The Krishna of the Gita is elucidating with an illustration-
