Yogi taapasvi se bhi shreshta hai

Karma kandi se samajh behtar useh,
Arjun tu bhi yogi ban iss liyee.
A yogi is superior to ascetics. He is considered to be even superior to those having knowledge of the scriptures and is also superior to those acting with a desire for reward, O Arjun! Therefore become a yogi.

The Gita is a scripture which motivates one to do something in a practical way. That too specially in such a manner, which would ensure spiritual evolution, so that the state of self-elevation may come into direct experience, supreme peace. Absolute contentment is also experienced; human birth should attain fulfilment in the real sense. Here the Blessed Lord is giving a simple directive-yogi bhavarjuna'. O Arjun! Become a yogi; become a practitioner of yoga even if it is through the medium of the yoga of action or yoga of devotion and knowledge-by any means whatsoever, but bring yoga into practice; allow it to assume a practical role in your life, such practice of yoga which would bring intellect to the state of equanimity (samatvam yoga ucchyate Gita 2/48). Such implementation of yoga which would enable one to leam the art of performing action with skill, so that along with the performance of action religious obligations may also be discharged! Actions should not become bondage (yogah karmsu kaushalam' Gita 2/50). Such practice of yoga, which despite sufferings would not allow one to get perturbed. It should enable one to remain in every situation in the state of peace of one's own nature and joy. (Dukh sanyog viyogam sangnitam' Gita 6/23). Become a yogi meaning that make yoga a part of your life. The word 'tasmad' has been used. For this reason become a yogi!
Why should one become a yogi? Because a yogi is superior to those ascetics who bearing hunger, thirst, heat and cold can perform difficult austerities but their goal is not the purification of the Self or attainment of godhood; the objective is the fulfilment of worldly desires and to strengthen oneself physically, to enjoy the power of ruling, etc. A yogi is also superior to those knowers of the scriptures who have read several holy books, have become intellectuals, are well informed, but just to the extent of being orally, by speech and mentally knowledgeable; not for practical life where there is no change in behaviour!
A yogi is also superior to those who work for a reward, who undertake sacrifices, charity and austerities, etc but with an eye for fruits. Dedicated religious activities are performed well but what has been gained? Once again the same old world. How will self-upliftment take place? Undertakings are no doubt religious; but the goal is the world in action; undertakings are just outward activities; but in the mind revolves the world. It is not a good state. For this reason a yogi has been called the superiormost and through the medium of Arjun this inspiration has been given to us:
Read with care and comprehend! Take yourself to be Arjun. You will certainly feel the natural spirit of the Lord. One will experience the intimacy of the Lord towards oneself and the overflowing emotions of the affections of the Lord brimming and flowing naturally. Bring into practice these divine words and derive real advantage from it. Begin the practice of yoga without delay and also carry it out without break. When the Lord Himself is so intimately insisting on it, keeping in view our welfare, then this is for our utmost good. Understanding it in this manner, one should prepare one's mind accordingly.
