📜 Translation English

You are the father of this entire world of moving and unmoving, most venerable, the greatest preceptor of all preceptors. O One with incomparable might! In the three worlds there is none who is equal to You; how can then anyone be greater than You? For this reason O Lord! I am prostrating my body in Your Holy feet, and offering salutation to You; the adorable One I pray for Your grace. O Lord! Just as the father of the son, friend of the friend and husband of the wife bears follies, in a similar manner You are able to bear my follies, i. e. able to forgive them.

💬 Commentary English

In the Gita whether it is the expression of warning or inspiration, eulogy or of prayer, or of enquiry-in every expression there is found inbuilt a guidance for helpful for life and for self-elevation. Along with the request for forgiveness one can see here the dedicated faith. What kind of dedication should one have towards the most revered spiritual entity? See in this verse carefully:

In the origin of creation the initial role is that of Brahmaji. But his source and originator are You only. That is why You are the grandsire. The knowledge of the essential truth by which the preceptor has acquired the status of spiritual master that too You are, because of this You are the greatest preceptor amongst all preceptors. You are in every way the centre of adoration for all. A special matter pertaining to dedicated conviction! Your greatness is magnificent, incomparable, and unique. None can equal You then how can one imagine anyone to be greater than You! The point to remember here is that adoration is for the universal form of the Lord, who is eternal and infinite.

Observe the humility of Arjun as he offers his adoration. Arjun has totally submitted to the Lord and is pouring forth his inner emotions in front of the Lord-

The worthiness of begging pardon is only when one has emptied oneself from inside entirely. If the inner arrogance persists then the request for forgiveness or for grace becomes a mere formality of words or just a show. This will not do ever in the context of the Lord. Arjun is offering salutations in the spirit of submission i. e. he empties himself of his ego from inside and then says that as sometimes the son due to pampering commits some wrong deed and the father tolerates it, but does not take it seriously; a friend in an intimate relationship, if something of this kind happens, his friend takes it lightly and just as the wife due to inadvertence or carelessness commits some wrong towards the husband and the husband forgives it; if due to intimacy, love and rashness I have committed any error or wrong deed, You are competent; I am ignorant and unaware; do not see mywrong doing but by bestowing grace forgive me.

After he has begged for forgiveness Arjun requests the Lord for the vision of His easily comprehensible four-armed form-
