II Shree Bhagavaanuvaacha II
mayā prasannena tavārjunedam rūpam param darsitamātmayogāt
tejomayaṁ viśvamanantamādyam yanme tvadanyena na drşțapūrvam
Param tejomay adi sab ka hai jo,
Dikhaya tujhe roop prasanna ho
Seemarahit roop yeh mera hee,
Kisee ne siva tere dekha nahin.
The Blessed Lord said:
O Arjun! Having become pleased, by My own power I now show to you the Supreme, luminous, primeval and infinite universal form which none before you has ever viewed.

Arjun was terrified, was also somewhat in anguish and distressed. Time and again, he was observed to be pleading with the Lord for His grace. Whatever the Blessed Lord wished to show Arjun in His cosmic form He had already done. Here first of all, He gave an indication of being pleased. He showed His fearsome form but not due to anger but with grace. Maybe Lord wanted to make Arjun understand that this form of His was not for the purpose of instilling fear or distress in him but for inspiring him that whatever was going to transpire in the war that already has been accomplished by Him beforehand; there is neither any need to develop arrogance nor to escape from duty. The vision of the world spirit is due to My grace-
That Arjun could have had the vision of the cosmic form. Without the grace of the Lord that was not possible. Such a form which is supreme, full of luminosity, infinite, primal, enveloping the entire world in itself! That any one can view it; it is impossible! But when the grace of the Lord descends then even impossible can become possible! That is why-'atmayogať I have shown you this form through My divine energy and power of Yoga. This too is certain that this form of mine apart from you has not been viewed by any one. On reading these divine words one is bound to be full of amazement. This form had already been shown to mother Yashoda in His mouth and in the full court to heroes like Bhishma, Drona.
It is true but the form which was viewed by mother Yashoda was not fearsome. All the warriors are entering into Him, have all been slain by Him beforehand; this was not so. Such all pervasiveness and fierceness was not displayed then nor was there any occasion for it. The form which was seen by Bhishm, Drona, etc. was also a limited one. That was for a particular occasion. There was no scene of war in it too.
Otherwise too at this time Sanjay is viewing it as it is; its description is also being provided by him. But even that vision is not a direct one. Just as the religious congregation or any other programme some persons view and listen to it personally, whereas others sitting at home can also see it in front of them through the medium of television and can listen to it too. But there is a difference between direct viewing and seeing it at a remote place.
